There’s sad news today in the world of celebrity coupledom. The formerly reigning couple of cute, Michelle Williams and Jason Segel, have reportedly split.

The pair, who had been introduced by Williams’ best bud actress Busy Philipps, had been dating since March of 2012 but apparently parted ways this month. It’s not surprising the break-up has been relatively under the radar as the low-key stars had kept their relationship relatively private and out of the public eye, but it does seem a bit shocking since they had recently vacationed in Mexico and we reported a few short months ago they had bought a home in Brooklyn together.

Williams’ also recently dished about her beau in the March issue of In Style magazine, saying “I didn’t actually realize who he was before I started dating him,” and Segel for his own part had been spending a lot of time bonding with Williams’ 7-year-old daughter Matilda.

While it’s easy to adopt the mindset of “If they can’t make it, no one can,” especially when it comes to seemingly perfect matches made in silver screen heaven (Will Arnett and Amy Poehler, I’m still a little heartsick over you two!), the constantly shifting, on-the-go lifestyles of our favorite celebs often prove difficult in maintaining relationships. Williams’ has been busy promoting her film “Oz the Great and Powerful” which is scheduled to hit theaters March 8th and Segel has his duties filming the popular sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” on CBS in addition to having wrapped the forthcoming apocalypse comedy “This Is the End.” No word on whether opposing schedules and bicoastal lifestyles played a part in the split, but here’s hoping the duo stays friends and we don’t have to hear about any other painful break-ups in the near future (Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, please let me never have to write about you!)
